OPENING ADDRESS
Minister of The Government Legislation
Good morning, ladies and gentlemen!
First of all, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all of you, the liaison officials from 20 countries participating in our forum on behalf of your own nation.
I am also very glad to have officials concerned from many institutes at this forum, which have been very interested in our ministry's affairs.
This forum has been organized in order to prepare in advance for the Legislative Information Forum, in which representatives from the legislative ministries in your countries will participate in. Furthermore, this forum will play an important role in promoting interchange and cooperation between legislative ministries in Asia and our Korean government legislation ministry. Therefore, this forum has a significant meaning.
I am confident that each Asian country can actively share its legislative information with other countries and cooperate with them based on today's successful forum.
Already, many countries have showed their sincere concerns and have taken part in our forum even though it is the first legislative affairs forum.
Through this forum, a new legislative cooperation system will be established by the government ministries and institutes in Korea. They are Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Ministry of Justice, the National Assembly, The Law Research Institute of Seoul National University, Korea Development Institute, Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA), Korea Legislation Research Institute. I expect that we will go on to developing the legislative cooperation system for our advanced international society in the near future.
Ladies and gentlemen!
As you know, the Seoul G-20 Summit was very successful here in Korea last year. Based on the successful summit meeting, our legislation ministry has been advancing the globalization of Korean legislation by laying down the foundation for the Green Growth laws that are leading the world in the field of legislative system.
In addition, our ministry leads the globalization of legislative system by collecting legislative information from 80 countries. Furthermore, we have built a database of overseas legislative information in order to meet our users' convenience and give the legislative information in English and Chinese. Through these efforts, we aspire to become a hub of international legislative information in the world.
Above all, I want to emphasize that Korea can be a successful model among a few countries that have achieved a huge economic success in a short period based on an excellent legislation system. We are doing our best to develop legislative products such as "The 60 Years of History of Economic Laws" that will help many countries.
Ladies and gentleman!
As I mentioned earlier, our country has an excellent legislative infrastructure. It is not only an economic property but also a national property. So our legislation ministry stands at the center of building the legislative infrastructure.
Also our legislation ministry is the most professional legislative organization responsible for controlling and coordinating the Korean government's legislative affairs. Therefore, I am sure your ministry's legislative interchange and cooperation with my ministry will help your country understand the entire Korean administration and improve the comprehensive interrelationship with Korea.
The liaison officials from just the Asian countries are participating in today's forum. In the near future, our forum will be expanded into an international meeting, in which the legislative officials of the world will participate. As a result, our forum will be a place for legislative interchanges and cooperations among all the countries in the global village.
Finally, I am deeply grateful once again to the liaison officials from Asia and other officials concerned for your close attention and active participation. With your big help, we can create today's forum as the new international place for mutual exchange of opinions on legislative informations.
